It became very clear during the fire period that our tourism strategy needed to be reworked.
A lack of accommodation, and clearly dependent upon passing traffic, indicated we needed a tourism strategy that links to the flow-through process.
The Chamber will be looking at options which have a mix of iconic events, combined with ongoing interest features and a consistent marketing message.
Because of the COVID19 issues, we have postponed tackling this until June 2020, however in the interim we invite you to submit your interest, and your ideas, so that we can include you in the strategy development and future discussions.
Leaning on what we have learned from recent events about the habits of tourism visitors in our region, we are revisiting our tourism strategy on three fronts:
1) Encouraging visitation as soon as possible after the pandemic restrictions have been lifted,
2) Creating a brand for the region,
3) Creating a long term strategy which embraces regular visitation combined with a number of iconic, well supported events,
We will begin looking at this in June/July 2020 and invite expressions of interest from people who would like to voice their opinion or have a part in the development of our strategies.
